How Often does it Happen
Perinatal loss is very common in the United States. It is estimated that 1 million women every year experiences perinatal loss in some form. Early loss (less than 20 weeks) can account for 10-15% of all conceptions. Late loss (greater than 20 weeks) can account for 2-4% of all pregnancies. Although rates of loss have remained the same through the years, stillbirth rates have continued to decline, proving that early and consistent prenatal care is necessary to decrease the risk of loss.
